Round-Up: Results from Arts & Hospitality Breakfast
Forging partnerships and collaborations between arts and hospitality industry executives has always been the mission of the Arts & Business Council of Miami’s annual Breakfast with the Arts & Hospitality. Now in its 10th year, the foursome line-up of speakers packed the house at the Hotel Inter-Continental, led George Neary, associate vice president of Cultural Tourism for the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, who also served as master of ceremonies. This year’s other featured speakers were Yolanda Sanchez, director of Fine Arts & Cultural Affairs for Miami International Airport; Gillian Anderson, president and CEO of the Science Museum; and Leann Standish, deputy director of External Affairs at the Perez Art Museum Miami. They all shared personal experiences as well as those they’ve had with their respective organizations during the current arts boom that Miami-Dade County is experiencing. A key to success? Perseverance. “The museums and airport arts programs would never have grown and flourished as they have without each of these individuals and their staffs staying focused on their goals,” Neary said.Following the breakfast, the after-mingling among the audience and speakers seemed to produce conducive conversation about the next steps needed to further cultural development. “How the speakers captivated the audience during and after the event is a testament to the strength of this year’s line-up and the topics that were chosen,” said Neary, “proving that these are the people that Miami’s arts community wants to hear from.”
