Miami artists, gallerist Brook Dorsch shine in WLRN documentary
I sat mesmerized, watching a fantastic documentary unfold on WLRN that finally gave Miami artists and gallerists the long overdue credit they deserve. Rising Tide: A Story of Miami Artists is something I've been hoping to see for many years now.I nodded along in agreement as museum directors, gallerists, artists and historians described Miami's art scene perfectly. My favorite part of all I have to admit, was that my friend Brook Dorsch was so prominently featured. As a pioneer of the Wynwood art movement, his Dorsch Gallery was one of the driving forces that put the area on the world's art radar.Watching Brook so eloquently speak of Art Basel and the Wynwood area in general and his growth there, brought back memories of his humble beginnings as a gallery owner just starting out in a small space on the corner of Coral Way and 13th Avenue above the old Parkway Pharmacy. My husband and I and our friends spent so many Friday nights at his exhibition openings enjoying the talented artists he represented, never truly realizing this was the start of something so awesome. Kind of like the SoBe heyday of the late 1980s and mid 1990s when they were just flying by the seat of their pants yet all the while creating this incredible thing.I encourage everyone who loves art and culture to experience the Dorsch Gallery at 151 NW 24 St. and see the incredible shows and performances he puts on at his space. It's great to go during the Wynwood Art Walk on the Second Saturday of every month but come also when he's got special events. It's an experience you won't soon forget. And keep an eye out for his upcoming expansion, renderings are on his website (click on the link above to view). And to my friend Brook I say congratulations on following your dream and being such an innovator. I know it's your passion and you've enriched so many lives doing what you do and doing it so well.
