Making a bit of difference
Today, I did one of the most fulfilling things I do...spread the word about an organization very near and dear to my heart, Friends of the Orphans.I attended their luncheon and heard the heartwrenching stories of the children the group supports and I found myself transfixed all over again.See, I discovered this group a few years back while volunteering somewhere else and was immediately hooked at how they run their orphanages. Refusing to separate any families, they take in the groups of siblings no matter how large. At the home they are fed three square meals a day, educated and taught the importance of participating in daily chores. Becoming well adjusted individuals is goal number one here which readies them for college and then, the real world. The number of success stories keeps growing and one of the organization's employees at the Southeast Region office here in Miami is one of them. He is a product of one of the homes and his was the story that today made me fall in love with Friends of the Orphans all over again.
