Glorious afternoon in Downtown Miami watching flying contraptions

I'd attended the Red Bull Flugtag event in Downtown Miami two years ago with my family in the blazing July heat so was ecstatic to find out that the organizers had put their thinking caps on and decided to switch the event to November this year. Very smart, I thought. The day turned out to be one of those glorious cloudless blue sky days with perfect low 70s temps. It's a day I won't soon forget because it was an all-Downtown Miami adventure and I absolutely love those days. It's why I love living here. We conveniently parked near the Publix along Brickell, paid our $5 and hopped on the Metromover station that's just steps away. With one switch we were in the Mover's Inner Loop so we could get to Bayfront Park where the event was being held. It was mobbed but still fun. We got a great grassy spot and sat watching those crazy costumed teams perform their wacky dances and then take off from the ramp in their homemade flying contraptions and basically fall into Biscayne Bay below. Sure, after watching a few of these it's pretty much the same thing but it's fun and a great way to pass the time.Once the last flying contraption took flight and landed and we said goodbye to our friends Kevin and Darryl we headed over to Bayside for a late lunch. As cheesy as Bayside can be with tacky shops and party boats, I still appreciate the beautiful view  and the yachts that always seem to parade through at some point. Grabbing a burger by the bay was the perfect way to cap our day.We then happily walked across the street to the Metromover stop along the middle of Biscayne Boulevard and made our way back to our car, all smiles that we had spent such a glorious day in Downtown taking in all it has to offer.
