From slow to pow!
This was a really quiet week, at least that’s how it started.
Monday and Tuesday were very quiet then on Wednesday after I did my weekly food rescue at Trader Joe’s in Coral Gables I decided to grab some lunch.
I wanted to try one of these spots along NE 123 St. near my house and I decided on a small Argentinian deli/restaurant called Caminito Way. I kept it simple and went with their ham and cheese sandwich on an incredibly delicious and fresh baguette. It was light on the mayonnaise which was great too and was served with the crispiest fries ever! I really liked it and I knew the minute I walked in and heard so many Argentinian accents this place was going to be legit and it certainly was.
Yesterday morning instead of coming straight home from dropping off Nicholas I decided to make a quick stop at the beach. Well, nothing was quick about it because it took me a while to get there but those 20 minutes dipping my legs in the water and sitting on the sand gave me what I needed to face the day!
And today I had the honor of being invited by my friend and work colleague Jean to attend the Fourth Annual Badass Women of the Year Awards at Jungle Island. I sat at The Betsy Hotel’s table, between Jean and the two owners, brother and sister Deborah Briggs Plutzik and Jonathan Plutzik. Deborah was nominated in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion category and she won! That’s her in the picture above proudly displaying her award. I loved sitting with them and also loved discovering so many amazing non-profit organizations that are all about empowering, mentoring and lifting up women. I spoke to many of the organization’s representatives during the networking hour prior to the awards. There are several I know I will be contacting and getting involved with and even writing about. When each award was presented they also mentioned that each one of the organizations present would receive a $1,000 donation. It was a truly special afternoon.
Click here for a link to the event program, and make sure to check out the page toward the back that lists all those non-profit organizations I mentioned. And if you’re on Miami Beach make sure to visit The Betsy Hotel, one of the best around.
Tonight, I’m going to do another food rescue, bringing leftover pastries and goodies from Maman Bakery in Sunset Harbour to The Lotus House Women’s Shelter. After I’m doing, I’ll be popping into Sweat Records for the Tango & Poetry event with Miami’s own The Biscayne Poet.
Tomorrow I’m going to Just the Funny to catch an Improv Comedy show with Monica. Brett Graff who was a nominee at today’s awards luncheon and runs Social Miami.com and who I’ve known forever performs improv there and has been inviting me for years. I figured I should finally go. I have to admit, I can’t wait to see her in action. Monica and I are gonna get dinner before for sure.
Oh and here’s a link to an article I wrote for Artburst Miami. Click here to read it, it’s about an art exhibit/event next Tuesday, Aug. 27 at El Fresco Studio Space iin Little Havana.
That’s all for this week, much more to come next week!
