Divino Ceviche on Giralda Plaza in Gables is doing its own version of Miami Spice
The traditional Miami Spice promotion which runs from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30 features multi-course meals for $23 at lunch and $39 at dinner. However, Divino Ceviche the popular Peruvian restaurant on Giralda Plaza in Coral Gables has their own "Divino Spice" of a three-course dinner for $29.At the preview dinner they served up these dishes family style where we sampled three of the four appetizers offered on their Spice menu and two of the three entrees.Octopus is a trendy item that many restaurants are serving and at Divino Ceviche they're giving it a Peruvian spin. It's served on a skewer and seasoned with vinegar, cumin, garlic and served with a Peruvian panca chili. As tender to the bite as the potato it's served on, the Peruvian corn scattered around them are a nice touch. The other appetizer we tried featured the popular Peruvian beef tenderloin better known as lomo. The mini tacu tacu con lomito features a bed of cooked rice and beans seasoned with Peruvian yellow pepper, formed into a small cake and fried. That's topped with a small piece of beef tenderloin, quail egg and Peruvian creole salsa. It's the perfect little bite. You could almost call the entrees a version of surf and turf given that we had the traditional lomo saltado of beef, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, soy sauce and garlic. However, instead of with the traditional rice and french fries, this one was served with spaghetti tossed in a Peruvian style pesto. The pesto was a tad heavy but nonetheless delicious. While the other entree was a seafood lover's dream, the arroz con mariscos (rice with seafood), featuring a bounty of shrimp, squid, mussels and scallops mixed with rice, red pepper, cilantro and Peruvian panca pepper dressing. It smelled and tasted like the ocean, ever more so with each salty bite. And what could be prettier than dessert in a martini glass. It was their suspiro limeño, a sweet concoction of sweetened condensed and evaporated milk, vanilla extract, egg whites and yolks, confectioner's sugar and cinnamon. The merignue elevated the already elegant dessert. The slice of passion fruit cheesecake with the orange/yellow compote topping was a sunny, luscious piece of heaven.Get there soon, not only to try their delectable menu but to catch the beautiful Umbrella Sky exhibition on Giralda.Divino Ceviche, 160 Giralda Plaza, Coral Gables (786) 360-3775 with another location in Doral at 2629 NW 79 Ave., Doral (305) 406-2345
