Champions Bar & Grill serving up sophisticated menu in elegant sports bar

Aptly named Champions Bar & Grill, probably because it faces one of the golf world's most challenging courses, the Blue Monster in Doral, this elegant restaurant has a well-crafted menu sure to please golfers and more.

Having recently announced Executive Chef James Rogers to oversee all culinary at Champions, as well as throughout the resort, the meal we had showed his extensive experience.

Trio of appetizers

They brought out a nice sampling of appetizers including the seared tuna tostones with avocado mousse. Tender rare tuna atop crispy, crunchy tostones, topped with a creamy, pale green avocado mousse.

Alongside those were the shrimp in aji amarillo, tender shrimp in a Peruvian pepper aji sauce that had an expected little kick along with the soy-glazed pork belly, fatty and decadent served with an Asian slaw and spicy gochujang chilli sauce.

After all that we still wanted to try some entrees so we had...

Artistan pappardelle

Artisan pappardelle with veal bolognese, braising sauce, pecorino romano, orange zest and extra virgin olive oil. The veal was rich and hearty and the braising sauce the perfect choice for the thick pasta and the orange zest, a true element of surprise, that worked.

Grouper

My miso-glazed grouper with roasted bok choy and Japanese mushrooms in kabayaki sauce with a side of fluffy, aromatic jasmine rice was delicious.

Took home leftovers of both, as the portions are substantial and we definitely saved no room for dessert.

Next time you're playing a round of golf here or just want a nice meal in Doral, this is a good place to dine.
