Blog No. 8 of 2025

Relaxation, relaxation, relaxation. That’s been my aim this week in the hopes that I can finally get back to 100% health and return to my usual routine.

That is why… I canceled my food rescue volunteering on Monday and Wednesday and did not attend the media preview of “Mamma Mia!” at the Arsht Center on Tuesday or a SoBE Food & Wine Festival kick-off event on Wednesday. Speaking of the Arsht, they’ve just announced their 2025-2026 Broadway in Miami season, click here to see the lineup!

Instead, I stayed home and rested and so because of that, I haven’t got much more to report for this week, other than driving Nick to Bird Bowl for his Best Buddies Friendship Walk Kick-Off Party. The Miami walk is on April 5 at LoanDepot Park, you can click on the link above for all info, and here’s the link to our Friends and Family Page.

I did however, make a stop at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park and Archie’s Seabreeze restaurant, also in Fort Pierce, on Monday on my drive home from the long weekend in Port Canaveral. Probably why I canceled food rescue that night because I hit lots of traffic on the way home and was tired when I finally walked in the door.

Archie’s Seabreeze in Fort Pierce

It was worth it though because I took in a lovely nature walk and spent time sitting on the rocks at the jetty at the state park that morning. And my coconut shrimp and coconut rice lunch at the open-air, breezy and laid-back Archie’s was the perfect meal to keep me going on the long drive home.

In my writing world (other than this weekly blog that is), I’m working on several articles including one on the Miami Beach Youth Music Festival and another on MOCA’s Art on the Plaza, the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami’s long running yearly public art installation program.

The interviews for those were so inspiring, starting with the young musicians and singers I spoke to for the festival. Their talent and drive is seriously impressive. And the artists I interviewed for the Plaza article were equally memorable. There was Avi Young, a 26-year-old Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) graduate who so eloquently spoke of attending college at the Kansas City Art Institute only to have that end during the pandemic. His shift to becoming a working artist back home in Miami after that disruption inspired me to want to visit his space at Wynwood’s Bakehouse Art Complex.

Then there was Nathan Moyer whose father’s carpentry and woodworking inspired his work as an artist. I can’t wait to visit Nathan’s warehouse space in Broward. He creates work from recycled plastics and also will be collaborating with one of my favorite Miami organizations O, Miami who put on the yearly poetry festival and do year-round programming around the city, to once again incorporate poetry into the public installation he is creating at MOCA.

I also encourage you to visit the South Florida on the Cheap website to find not only great deals on attractions, museums and events but also good food deals and more. I actually updated a few of our event posts like next weekend’s St. Sophia Greek Festival where admission is free on Friday and the annual Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Expo’s 2025 discounts and deals.

That’s all I’ve got for this week… see you next Friday. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
