Suds straight out of the Sunshine State

Hometown hops

Top places to sample new local brews

Mass-produced commercial beers are great for three reasons: Super Bowl ads, guzzling through a funnel, and not remembering whatever comes after.

When you want to savor, top new suds from local brewers await in cool spots from Wynwood to SoBe.

Wynwood Brewing Company
Until the new Wynwood home site opens for tastings this spring, we’re counting down the days to the March 9 outdoor tasting event in the Grove at Peacock Park. Live music and games will bring out the tasting notes in the samplings of Blonde Ale, Wynwood IPA, and Pop’s Porter.
585 NW 24 St., Wynwood (opening in spring). March 9 tasting event $39 here.

Harry’s Pizzeria
Inside this delightful hole-in-the-wall pizza joint, you’ll find pies topped with oysters and short ribs along with mighty fine Florida hops. Sip on the new classic American blonde ale Michael’s Genuine Home Brew made with citrusy notes, hint of floral hops, and a dry finish — perfect for when you’re inhaling that meatball and bacon-sprinkled pizza.
3918 N. Miami Ave., Design District (786-275-4963).

The Abbey Brewing Company
Hop a stool inside this recently renovated SoBe standby with stellar ale choices, including the legendary Abbey Brown Ale which debuted in 1995. For more recent brews, opt for one of the newbies such as Brother Dan’s Double with hints of toasted caramel, dark chocolate, and raisins, or the Brother Aaron’s Quadruple offering roasted toffee and currant flavors.
1115 16 St., Miami Beach (305-538-8110).
